Troubleshooting

Start with the message Potluck shows you. Most of them say what to do next. If yours is not here, open an issue on GitHub.

That link has expired or was already used. Sign-in links work once and only for a short time. Go back to Sign in and ask for a new one. Open it on the same device and browser you asked from.

Check your spam folder, then tap Send it again. Make sure the address is right; Use a different email lets you fix it.

Your account needs the confirmation link Potluck sent when you signed up. Find that email and open the link, then sign in again.

On Sign in, tap Forgot password?, enter your email and tap Send reset link. If the reset link has expired, ask for a new one.

You were signed out for safety. Sign in again and you will be back where you were.

The page says This invite has gone cold and gives the reason: expired, used up, revoked, or not found. Ask someone in the group for a fresh link. See Inviting people.

In the Invite people sheet, tap Link settings below your current link. Only the group owner sees Joins as. If the sheet says Only owners and admins can invite people to this group., the group has turned off member invites.

Balances must be zero first. Settle up, then try again. If you own the group, transfer ownership first.

It may be archived. On Groups, tap Show archived. If it is not there, someone removed you or the owner deleted it.

Read the message under the form:

  • The split needs to add up to the total. In Exact, the amounts must match the total exactly.
  • Percentages need to add up to 100%. Drag the bar or tap Even it out.
  • Pick at least one person to split with.
  • No exchange rate for that currency yet. Pick another currency, or convert it yourself. See Currencies.

Only the person who added or paid for it, and the group’s owner and admins, can change it. Ask one of them. See Editing and deleting.

  • That file is over 10 MB. Take a smaller photo or a screenshot of it.
  • Use a photo or a PDF. Other file types are not accepted.
  • If it failed for another reason, save without it and try Edit, then Add receipt later.

Open the group’s Expenses tab and check each line’s you lent or you borrowed. Common causes: the wrong person under Paid by, someone left out of the split, or a payment recorded twice. If simplify debts is on, the list of who pays whom may look different from your own expenses but totals the same. See Balances.

Under the grid, Potluck says Your times did not save. We will keep trying. It retries on its own when you are back online. If it gives up, tap Try again.

On a phone, start your drag inside the grid. Dragging from outside scrolls the page. See Painting your availability.

Everyone counted has to be free for the whole length of the plan, and the time has to reach the plan’s minimum. See Why is a time missing?.

Potluck shows times in the zone set on Me. Check Time zone there, or tap Use my current time zone.

  • Check that Push notifications is on under Me for this device. It says Push is on for this device.
  • If it says Notifications are blocked in your browser settings., allow notifications for Potluck in your browser or phone settings, then turn push on again.
  • On iPhone and iPad, Potluck must be added to your home screen and opened from there.
  • If it says This browser cannot do push notifications, try a current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
  • If it says Push is not set up on this server yet, push is not available on this Potluck server. The inbox still has everything.

Calendar apps refresh subscribed feeds on their own schedule, sometimes only every few hours. If it never updates, check that you did not reset the link since subscribing.

Refresh the page, or close and reopen the app, to load the latest version.

Too many requests in a short time. Wait a few seconds and try again.

An unexpected error. Try again. If it keeps happening, open an issue on GitHub and say what you were doing.
